The XIII Stanford Europe Golf Tournament – Biarritz Scramble Cup 2024 will be held on Saturday 24 de agosto with departures every ten minutes from 12h30 pm en el campo de golf de Le Phare en Biarritz. Se recomienda estar allí a las 12h00 para poder hacer una foto colectiva y recibir las últimas instrucciones y los regalos que pueda haber. Estas horas pueden variar en función del número de jugadores y junto con las parejas, su handicap y la hora de salida de cada una se confirmarán por un grupo de whatsapp ad-hoc el día anterior. El cocktail-cena y entrega de premios será de 20h a 22h30 en el restaurante del propio Club que tendremos en exclusiva para nosotros. El vestuario con duchas estará abierto hasta las 20 horas.

The The registration fee is 130€ por persona que incluye el green-fee, trofeos, regalos y el cocktail-cena. Los acompañantes no jugadores que deseen asistir al cocktail, participarán en el sorteo de regalos y deberán contribuir con 50€. Los miembros del club Le Phare pagarán como inscripción solo 50€ por persona. Estos precios son válidos para los que se apunten y paguen antes del 15 de agosto. Después los precios son 140€ y 60€ respectivamente. Si se cancela la inscripción o la cena antes del 15 de agosto se devuelve lo pagado.

1. Participation is by invitation only, but we are open to Stanford and Ryder Club alumni and to golfers around Biarritz, so please contact us. We do not discriminate by handicap. You must belong to a golf federation. Even if we play by pairs, you do not need to be two people to register.
2. The handicap is the official one, but the Competition Committee could assess a different one if the need arises.
3. Once the list of participants is closed the players with lower handicaps will be matched with players from the other half by lottery, trying to have two mixed couples for each tee off time.
4. The handicap of the pair is calculated following these steps: i) the lower handicap is multiplied by 0.35; ii) the higher handicap is multiplied by 0.15; and iii) those two numbers are added and rounded to the nearest unit.
5. The pairs will tee off starting with the lowest pair handicap.
6. For every hole, the pair must choose at least one stroke of each partner. Violation of this rule will have a two-stroke penalty if the hole is completed in three strokes or more, and a one-stroke penalty if completed in two strokes. There is no penalty if you do hole-in-one.
7. En cada golpe, incluso en bunker y rough, se puede colocar bola y que juegue primero cualquier jugador.
8. There will be prizes for the winning pair (Champions), the finalists (Runners Up), and prizes for the best approach and longest drive, both for females and males. We distinguish the pair finishing with more strokes with a prize for being the very last ones (Quinces). That includes disqualified pairs (the prize going to the pair with the highest accumulated strokes at the time of the disqualification). It is played medal, that is, total strokes. Ties are solved by: i) taking into account the last nine holes; and if necessary, ii) by advancing the pair with the highest difference in age of the members in the pair.
9. In matters not covered here we will apply local rules for local issues and rules of the Royal Spanish Golf Federation and the International for general ones. For clarification, balls for the best approach and drive must be on the green or on the actual fairway, respectively; and a local rule considers the grey paths as playground.
10. The Competition Committee is made up of María Altolaguirre, Manuel Asin and Marcelino Elosua. Its decisions are final.

The goals of the Biarritz Scramble rules are that all players should play and being accounted for, and no single stroke should break the good mood by itself. The Biarritz Scramble allows choosing the most appropriate shot each time, which is not always the best one. Remember that in each hole you must use at least one stroke of each player; and, therefore, it usually pays to take both players into account before getting to the green. It is best to use a good ball of the player that is playing worse as soon as possible, even if the other ball is marginally better. Your game will not be damaged by hard luck at the last minute. If you are shooting for birdie and the ball is on the green or in the fairway, remember that you can alter the order of playing. In a par 3 you may finish with a birdie with both balls from the same player, but you will have to add one stroke as penalty for a total of three strokes, in order to recognize the higher achievement of the same result obtained by the combined effort of the two members of the pair.

Champions normally beat par by several strokes, so do not get distracted. The dubious Quinces distinction -by the way, the most-celebrated one- adds some spark to the bottom of the table.

• We will happily discuss your physical presence in the welcome bag or in banners in the Club Le Phare during the whole tournament (8 hours).
